Picture this: You’re full of spark and passion, so you start a business. You pour your heart and soul into it and you’re making progress – and sales. You’re finally hitting your stride with this whole entrepreneur thing, then boom! You hit a wall.
You’re out of fresh ideas, your productivity is down and you just can’t seem to break past the plateau.
Instead of moving forward, you’re stuck in neutral, grinding your gears and going nowhere fast. No matter how hard you try, you can’t get traction on your goals.
How do you get out of the ditch and back on track? Give these tips a try.
Tip #1: Do a Brain Dump
The first thing that you should do is get it all out of your head. Write down what you’re concerned about, what you still love about your business, what’s distracting you, possible solutions, everything. You can also dump out loud to a friend or colleague if you’re more of a collaborative person.
Once you’ve written it all down, sift through your thoughts and filter out anything that’s irrelevant or illogical. You’d be surprised at how many of our biggest business fears can be rationalized when you view them objectively.
Tip #2: Take a Break
Sometimes, stepping away from work is the best thing you can do for yourself. Direct your energy into a non-work activity every once in a while. This will give you some time to reflect on your feelings and come up with solutions.
Don’t force the issue: if an idea doesn’t pop into your head automatically, don’t make a decision based on desperation. Instead, keep taking breaks until the right solution naturally presents itself.
Tip #3: Get Feedback
There’s no shame in asking for help when you’re feeling stuck. Sometimes the solutions we need are obvious to someone who’s looking at the situation from the outside in. The best way to do that is to ask someone you trust to give you honest feedback, even if it’s harsh.
That’s why it’s great to have a mentor or coach who has been in your shoes before and knows exactly what you’re going through.
Tip #4: Try a New Approach
Sometimes, tackling things from a new angle can be the key to getting unstuck. Have you ever put a puzzle together? Something as simple as rotating the puzzle piece can illuminate how it fits into the bigger picture.
So, if you’ve been looking at this obstacle the same way for a long time without much success, think about how you can do it from a different angle. Try to keep an open mind and you’ll find the right solution.

Feeling stuck is frustrating and scary, but it’s important to remember that you will get through it and find your stride again. Start by doing a brain dump, taking a break from the task at hand, getting feedback from a mentor or coach and trying new approaches.
