Did you know that the average freelancer serves 27 clients in a six-month period? Now, you might fall somewhere below or above that number, but one thing’s for sure – you’ll be working with a lot of clients over the course of your career. And that’s why it’s so important to make sure you attract clients who you love working with.
Now, there are a lot of different ways to find clients. But how do you sort through all your options to attract the right people? Read on to discover 4 of my favorite tips for finding clients you love.
Tip #1: Know What You Want
Before you even start reaching out to potential clients or working on your marketing strategy, sit back and take stock of what you want out of your business.
What kind of people do you like working with? What are your income goals? What exactly do you want to be doing on a daily basis? You need to know what you want before you start trying to attract it, so don’t skip this important step.
Tip #2: Get Your Message Clear
Once you know what you want, you can begin to find clients who fit the bill. Be clear about who you are and what you do in all of your outreach efforts and branding. The small details matter here, so take your time to make sure you’re getting your message across.
Tip #3: Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
Now, just because you’ve attracted some potentially good clients doesn’t mean the work stops there. Have a conversation to vet potential clients thoroughly. Find out what their expectations are.
Are they in line with your role and your own expectations? For example, if a client expects you to be available until 9 pm at night, but your schedule is 10 am -5 pm, it might not be a great fit.
Tip #4: Make Changes When Needed
So, maybe you thought you had it all in the bag, but something still doesn’t feel right. Don’t be afraid to revisit previous steps and make changes when needed.
Chances are, your wants and needs when it comes to clients will change over time. Remember, we’re always evolving and the way you run your business should evolve with you.
